DNO - A new generation of student innovators took center stage at the Innovation and Startup Festival recently held in Da Nang, showcasing creative solutions that bridge technology, sustainability and real-world needs.
The event highlighted Da Nang’s growing ambition to nurture an innovation-driven ecosystem powered by young talent.
Among the most eye-catching projects reaching the finals of the “Light Up Your Creativity” startup competition was a women’s health initiative developed by a group of students from the Da Nang University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy.
Their project introduced a personalized menstrual pain relief solution that combines physical products with digital technology.
The team developed a line of pain-relief gels and patches made from peanut shells, an abundant agricultural by-product that is both eco-friendly and cost-effective.
What sets the project apart is its integration with a mobile application that personalizes usage recommendations based on individual health profiles, menstrual cycles and pain levels.
By blending natural materials with data-driven personalization, the solution enhances user experience while opening new possibilities for digital health communication and targeted marketing.
Equally compelling was a cybersecurity research project by students from Vietnam - Korea University of Information and Communication Technology, which won second prize at the 2025 Student Scientific Research Awards.
The project addresses the growing threat of DNS abuse, where domain names are exploited for illegal activities such as online gambling, phishing and malicious redirection.
Applying deep learning techniques, the research team developed models capable of analyzing domain characteristics, DNS behavior and website content to detect early signs of abuse with greater accuracy than traditional methods.
Beyond detection, the project proposes timely mitigation measures, contributing to stronger website protection, enhanced data security and a safer digital environment.
For many participants, the festival was more than a competition. “It gives students the confidence to nurture ideas and turn creativity into reality,” said a student from University of Foreign Language Studies, University of Da Nang.
“The opportunity to learn from experts and connect with peers helps us better understand the startup journey and our own future paths”, she added.
According to Le Cong Hung, Secretary of the Da Nang Youth Union, the central Vietnamese city is committed to building a dynamic innovation hub focused on knowledge-based and digital economic growth.
Achieving that vision, he noted, depends on a pioneering force willing to think boldly and act decisively.
“That force is the youth,” he said. “With their energy, creativity and adaptability, young people are key to shaping Da Nang’s future in the era of Industry 4.0.”
Through practical, socially relevant and technology-driven ideas, the festival reaffirmed the vital role of students in fueling innovation and turning Da Nang’s smart city aspirations into reality.
