Enhancing economic, trade ties between Da Nang and Indian partners

DNO - On January 14, Da Nang Party Committee Deputy Secretary cum Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Pham Duc An played host to Tshering W. Sherpa, the Ambassador of India to Viet Nam.

At the event, Chairman Pham Duc An congratulated Ambassador Tshering W.Sherpa on his new appointment and expressed confidence that the Ambassador would continue to play an active role in deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Viet Nam and India.

He emphasised that bilateral relations, including cooperation between Da Nang and Indian partners, are entering a significant phase as the two countries prepare to mark the 10th anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2026.

The Chairman briefed the Ambassador on Da Nang’s socio-economic development in 2025, noting the city’s steady recovery and growth as well as its long-term development orientation.

Da Nang is positioning itself as a regional hub for finance, tourism, logistics, and high-quality services in central Viet Nam, while pursuing sustainable and innovation-driven growth.

In this context, Chairman Pham Duc An called on the Indian Embassy to continue mobilizing support from the Government of India for several key cooperation initiatives.

These include completing the conservation and restoration of the My Son Sanctuary, advancing the project on research, restoration and value promotion of the Dong Duong Buddhist Monastery complex in Da Nang, and sharing India’s experience in operating and attracting investment to the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) based in GIFT City - India’s first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), a global finance hub, and a platinum-rated Greenfield Smart City.

He also expressed Da Nang’s strong interest in opening direct air routes to bring more Indian tourists to the city, thereby boosting tourism cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

Ambassador Tshering W. Sherpa thanked the city’s leadership for the warm reception and voiced his agreement with the cooperation proposals put forward by Da Nang.

He affirmed that India attaches great importance to its partnership with Viet Nam and is committed to further promoting economic and trade ties between the two countries.

The Ambassador also pledged to encourage a stronger presence of Indian enterprises in Da Nang, especially in sectors where India has strengths and Da Nang has growing demand, such as finance, tourism, and logistics.
