As reported, local accommodation providers welcomed an estimated 16.5 million visitors in the first 11 months of the year, an 18.9% increase compared with the same period in 2024.

Weather challenges but steady performance

According to data from the Da Nang Statistics Office, despite prolonged unfavourable weather conditions, the city’s total tourism and service revenue nearly reached VND53 trillion (nearly US$ 2.12 billion) in the January - November period.

This growth was largely attributed to the sector’s ability to adjust its products, sustain operations and expand target markets with notable agility.

From late October through November, storms and flooding caused significant disruptions to outdoor and beach-related tourism activities across the city.

Nonetheless, the accommodation and food service sectors remained stable and even continued to post year-on-year revenue gains.

This positive outcome was driven by a series of incentive programs and a calendar of cultural events and festivals designed to stimulate demand during low-season months.

International arrivals recorded steady growth, helping to offset a temporary decline in domestic travel.

Revenue from accommodation and food services reached VND 48.565 trillion (approximately US$1.94 billion), accounting for 21.1% of the city’s total retail sales of goods and consumer services.

This segment remains a critical pillar for Da Nang’s wider tourism, trade and service ecosystem.

In response to weather-related disruptions, numerous hotels, restaurants and service providers shifted outdoor experiences to indoor formats, supplementing their offerings with culinary, cultural and artistic activities to maintain visitor engagement.

Travel agencies innovate to avoid operational disruptions

Da Nang-wide travel operators also adopted flexible strategies, including introducing short-stay itineraries and adjusting tour schedules to avoid periods of severe weather.

These efforts ensured service continuity and encouraged longer visitor stays.

As a result, travel services generated an estimated VND 4.242 trillion (US$ 169.7 million) in revenue during the 11-month period, representing 1.8% of total retail and service turnover and marking a 19.5% increase year-on-year.

Although adverse weather posed undeniable pressures, the city’s tourism and service industries continued to operate in a relatively stable manner.

According to Phan Xuan Thanh, an official from the Da Nang Tourism Association, Da Nang’s ability to retain visitor volume during months of heavy rainfall demonstrates the city’s sustainable development approach.

Da Nang is shifting toward a green, eco-oriented and diversified tourism model.

Beyond its traditional strengths in beach tourism and outdoor festivals, the city is increasingly elevating indoor entertainment, gastronomy, culture, heritage and year-round artistic events, creating “anchors” that enhance visitor experiences in all seasons.
