DNO - Team BaseM from the University of Science and Technology - the University of Da Nang has recently claimed the top prize at the eProjects Innovation Showcase 2025 competition held in Ho Chi Minh City.
Team BaseM consists of Phan Le Quynh Ngoc from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Thai Minh Tam from Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Pham Nguyen Khanh Hung from Faculty of Transport Mechanics, Tran Ngoc Hanh Nguyen from Faculty of Chemistry, and Le Doan Phu from Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology.
The team is under the guidance of Dr. Le Ly Thuy Tram and Dr. Nguyen Van Minh.
With their project “Automated label checking system from storage tanks to packaging lines”, the team has proposed a feasible solution which handles the need for automation and high accuracy. It has, thereby, helped ensure safety and convenience in the actual production environment.
According to the team, in the production process, the connection of pipelines from storage tanks (with many types of labels such as ISO, IBC, drums, cans, and others) requires accurate label checking for correct filling for each type. Manual checking is both time-consuming and labor-intensive, and prone to errors and mistakes.
To tackle the problem, the team has developed an OCR technology-based automated system to verify tank and packaging labels during the connection process.
The eProjects Innovation Showcase 2025 was a creative academic playground that highlighted high applicability and practicality. It attracted teams from the country’s leading technical universities.
The competition was initiated by the Arizona State University (ASU) and the Dow Vietnam in collaboration with experts from international business partners such as Rockwell Automation, First Solar, and HBQ Technology.
Its intention was to inspire students to engage in STEM applications and apply their knowledge in automation, artificial intelligence, logistics, data systems, and smart communications to promote innovation for the community.
