Expanding tourist spending opportunities

According to data from the Da Nang Statistics Office, the city’s tourism sector generated nearly VND52.945 trillion in accommodation and food and beverage revenue in the first nine months of 2026, up 26.2% year-on-year. Travel service revenue was estimated at VND4.028 trillion, an increase of 16.5%.

From the beginning of the year to the end of September 2026, the number of overnight visitors stood at an estimate of 14.4 million, up 29.6% from the same period last year.

Of these, international overnight visitors accounted for about 7.69 million, up 28.9%, while domestic overnight visitors reached an estimated 6.74 million, up 30.4%.

Connecting services to create greater value

In recent years, Da Nang’s tourism sector has stepped up marketing campaigns in international markets, as well as organized destination introduction programs and business networking events in Singapore. Also, efforts have been made to expand cooperation opportunities in Australia.

These activities aim to shift the focus from increasing visitor numbers to improving tourism quality and economic efficiency.

The city has prioritized the attraction of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) travelers, and those seeking wellness retreats, culinary experiences, and cultural and nature-based exploration. These segments are expected to increase visitor spending, extend stays and encourage repeat visits.

To further enhance the destination’s competitiveness, travel agencies and tourism service providers stress the need for Da Nang to develop more distinctive tourism products, and create favorable conditions for them to expand their operations.

According to Mr. Tran Quoc Bao, Chairman of the city’s Business Association, Da Nang needs to develop more attractive entertainment and shopping offerings to encourage longer stays and higher spending.

He also suggested the city host large-scale music events and concerts to attract younger travelers.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien, Deputy Director of Hai Van Cat International Travel Company (Hava Travel), proposed the city support infrastructure upgrades, service standardization and training in hospitality skills and foreign languages for traditional craft villages and community-based tourism destinations.

He also called for the development of the night-time economy through pedestrian areas, night markets and regular artistic performances.

Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association Cao Tri Dung underlined a must-do for the city to increase funding for tourism promotion from the state budget, with a focus on high-spending markets that could help reduce seasonality, including Europe, India, Indonesia and the Middle East.
