The Japanese diplomat visited the city to attend the 2026 Japan-Vietnam Festival in Da Nang and discuss opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Welcoming the Japanese delegation, Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee Le Ngoc Quang noted that the visit coincided with a series of major international events taking place in the city, underscoring Da Nang's growing role as a destination for global exchanges and cooperation.

He highlighted the upcoming opening of AEON Mall Da Nang, the Japanese retail group's first shopping mall in the city, describing it as a significant milestone that demonstrates the increasingly practical and effective partnership between Da Nang and Japanese businesses.

He also thanked the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam for its continued support in promoting cultural exchanges and strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Da Nang has established official cooperative relations with six Japanese localities and hopes to receive further support from the Japanese Embassy in expanding those partnerships, he said.

The Da Nang Party chief said the central Vietnamese city maintained strong economic momentum during the first half of 2026 while advancing several strategic initiatives, including the development of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone and the Vietnam International Financial Center in Da Nang.

These flagship projects, he said, provide a solid foundation for broader international cooperation, with Japan remaining one of the city's highest-priority partners.

He expressed his hope that the Japanese Embassy would continue serving as a bridge to encourage more Japanese companies to invest in Da Nang, particularly in high-value sectors such as high technology, semiconductor design and manufacturing, artificial intelligence, logistics, finance, environmental technology and smart urban development.

It is also important to expand cooperation in higher education, workforce development, digital transformation, green transition and tourism.

For his part, Ambassador Ito Naoki praised Da Nang's impressive development achievements and attractive investment environment, expressing confidence that the city would continue its rapid progress.

He said Da Nang has the potential to become an international cultural exchange hub and a key growth engine for Central Vietnam.

The Ambassador reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with Japanese government agencies, local authorities and businesses to further strengthen cooperation with Da Nang, contributing to the continued development of the Vietnam-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
