DNO - On June 19, Nguyen Manh Hung, Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, met with Bodo Ramelow, Vice President of the German Bundestag, during his visit to Da Nang to discuss cooperation in investment, workforce development, and tourism.

At the meeting, Nguyen Manh Hung welcomed Bodo Ramelow back to Da Nang, noting that the visit coincided with the 15th anniversary of the Vietnam - Germany Strategic Partnership.
He highlighted the growing cooperation between Da Nang and the German state of Thuringia, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on friendly cooperation in May 2024.
Chairman Nguyen Manh Hung said Da Nang’s GRDP (gross regional domestic product) grew by 8.45% in the first quarter of 2026, while registered FDI (foreign direct investment) reached USD 313 million, 2.6 times higher than a year earlier. He noted that the city is focusing on high technology, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, logistics, the digital economy and innovation.
Da Nang also proposed stronger cooperation with Thuringia, Chemnitz and other German localities, particularly in workforce exchanges, vocational training and labour cooperation.
The city expressed its desire to expand vocational training programmes, promote the transfer of German-standard training technologies, and enhance the quality of local education. Da Nang called on German businesses to explore investment opportunities in key sectors such as high technology, semiconductors, renewable energy, green growth and digital transformation.
Bodo Ramelow praised the development achievements of Vietnam and Da Nang, noting that international cooperation and economic integration have been key drivers of growth.
He said Da Nang’s strengths in science, technology, innovation, education and human resources, together with its strategic location, improving infrastructure and favourable investment climate, make it an attractive destination for German investors. He also highlighted the Vietnamese community in Germany as an important bridge for cultural exchange and bilateral cooperation.
Bodo Ramelow expressed particular interest in vocational education, highlighting that Da Nang was the site of one of the earliest Germany - Vietnam vocational training cooperation programmes. He supported expanding German-standard vocational training to create more opportunities for Vietnamese students to study and work in Germany or join German companies operating in Vietnam.
He also pledged to promote Da Nang to German localities and businesses, facilitate investment links, and support people-to-people exchanges, tourism cooperation, and broader bilateral relations.
Concluding the meeting, Nguyen Manh Hung welcomed Germany’s proposals and highlighted vocational education, high-quality workforce development and business connectivity as key areas for cooperation.
He expressed hope that the discussions would lead to concrete programmes and projects that would contribute to the socio-economic development of Da Nang and strengthen ties between the two sides.
