DNO - Da Nang has unveiled a 2026 - 2030 plan to develop seven key tourism areas in its southern part, expanding the destination’s tourism space through its diverse coastal, island, river, lake, rural and heritage assets.

The plan, recently issued by the Da Nang municipal government, identifies Tam Ky, Quang Phu, Huong Tra and Ban Thach wards, together with Tam Xuan, Tam Hai and Phu Ninh communes, as priority tourism areas.

The city will develop the Tam Ky-Ban Thach-Huong Tra-Quang Phu urban area as the core, integrating tourism with trade, services, education and the night-time economy.

Phu Ninh, Tam Xuan and Tam Hai will be connected with surrounding areas to create a diversified tourism network. A central principle of the plan is sustainable, community-based tourism.

Local residents are expected to play an active role in organising tourism activities, providing products and services, and benefiting directly from tourism development.

By 2030, Da Nang aims to officially put at least seven tourism attractions into operation, with each priority area developing at least one distinctive tourism product.

The city also plans to develop 12 - 15 new tour programmes and encourage the establishment of around 20 - 30 community-based accommodation facilities, homestays, farmstays and other models linked to agricultural and ecological experiences.

The plan sets a target of at least 85 percent visitor satisfaction and a return-visitor rate of 30 percent or higher.

The southern tourism area is expected to welcome 1.5 - 2 million visitors by 2030, with annual growth of 18 - 20 per cent and an average stay of one to two nights.

Infrastructure will also be upgraded at key attractions, including access roads, parking areas, public toilets, waste collection systems and tourist signage.

The Tam Ky - Ban Thach - Quang Phu - Huong Tra area will focus on cultural, historical and river-based tourism, with attractions including Ky Anh Tunnels, the Monument to Vietnamese Heroic Mother and the Bai Say wetlands along the Dam River.

Tam Thanh-Tam Tien-Tam Hai will be developed as a connected destination for coastal, island and community-based experiences, incorporating fishing-village culture and local arts.

Meanwhile, Phu Ninh Lake and Huong Tra will focus on ecotourism, leisure, wellness, agriculture and rural experiences, adding new dimensions to the southern tourism offer.

The strategy is also designed to broaden Da Nang’s tourism footprint and ease pressure on the city centre and Hoi An by creating more destinations and experiences across the southern area. Digital transformation is another key component.

By 2030, all priority tourism sites are expected to provide Wi-Fi and QR codes offering information in at least Vietnamese and English. The city also plans to develop a digital map covering the entire area and expand cashless payment services.

Artificial intelligence is expected to be gradually applied to data analysis, visitor information, destination promotion, demand forecasting and the improvement of tourist experiences.

With the above-mentioned plan, Da Nang is seeking to build a more diverse tourism ecosystem in its southern area while creating greater opportunities for local communities to participate in and benefit from tourism growth.
