DNO - After the merger with Quang Nam, the new Da Nang boasts a rich river network that links many valuable cultural and historical spaces. Waterway tourism, therefore, is expected to bring a breath of fresh air to the city’s tourism industry.
In recent years, Da Nang has made great efforts to develop waterway tourism. Notably, the city has developed an inland waterway tourism project, and tours such as Dragon Bridge fire-breathing and water-squirting shows and 45-minute cruise along the Han River.
Now, besides the Han, Co Co, Cam Le and Vinh Dien rivers, the city can develop more waterway tourism routes along many other rivers of the former Quang Nam. This is a great potential for the city to exploit waterway tourism, contributing to elevating its tourism to new heights.
From ancient times to the present, the Co Co River is not only a waterway but also a "river of memories" connecting cultural and commercial spaces from Cua Han to Hoi An.
Both sides of the Co Co, Vinh Dien and Cam Le rivers still retain elements of traditional craft villages and long-standing residential areas. That is a favorable condition for restoring riverside cultural villages that both preserve and promote cultural values whilst boosting the local tourism development.
In particular, the dredging of the Co Co River is of great significance and is widely supported by the people. In addition to the issue of traffic or tourism, restoring this river route will awaken ancient cultural values associated with trading ports, craft villages, and temples along the route from Da Nang to Hoi An.
According to experts, in the context of expanded administrative boundaries and tourism product restructuring, developing riverside cultural spaces will be a new spearhead, creating attractive tourism products for the city.
