Da Nang leaders visit the Vietnamese community in Savannakhet

The delegation included Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Anh Thi and representatives of municipal departments and agencies.

The Vietnamese Association in Savannakhet has operated for 10 terms, representing more than 4,000 Vietnamese people, mainly engaged in small-scale trade and other economic activities. The community maintains strong solidarity and strictly complies with Lao policies and laws.

Speaking at the working session, Nguyen Duc Dung praised the association for helping overseas Vietnamese stabilise their lives, develop livelihoods, access social welfare and education, and preserve Vietnamese cultural traditions.

He also highlighted its role as a bridge with local authorities, strengthening Vietnam-Laos friendship and Da Nang-Savannakhet ties.

Nguyen Duc Dung updated the community on Da Nang’s development following administrative restructuring and affirmed that overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part of the nation. He also praised their strong ties with the homeland and support for people affected by natural disasters.

Nguyen Duc Dung urged the association to strengthen solidarity, support its members and further promote Da Nang-Savannakhet ties.

The Da Nang delegation also presented VND 100 million to the association to support its activities.

During its visit to the Vietnamese Language Centre in Savannakhet (VLC), the delegation was briefed on the centre’s operations and training achievements.

Since 2011, the centre has provided basic Vietnamese-language training to more than 3,100 students and local officials.

Since 2014, the centre has offered basic Vietnamese courses to 445 officials from Savannakhet. Between 2022 and 2026, Da Nang facilitated study and field trips for the centre’s learners, helping them improve their learning outcomes and offering them practical experience.

Dung praised the centre’s staff, teachers and learners for overcoming shortages in facilities and learning materials. He stressed that language helps strengthen communication and mutual understanding, further deepening the special friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Nguyen Duc Dung asked relevant Da Nang agencies to review the centre’s proposals and consider providing appropriate support. He reiterated the city's commitment to enhancing the centre's effectiveness.

The delegation also donated VND 10 million to the centre and offered gifts to two teachers from Da Nang who are working there.

Earlier on the morning of September 14, the delegation offered incense and observed a moment of silence at the President Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site in Savannakhet, paying tribute to his contributions to Vietnam and profound affection for Laos.
