Da Nang eyes stronger ties with Indonesia across tourism, investment and cultural exchange

DNO - Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Manh Hung, on Monday, warmly received Mr. Adam M. Tugio, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia to Vietnam, to discuss cooperation opportunities in various sectors with the city.

At the meeting, Chairman Hung thanked the Indonesian ambassador for accepting an invitation to serve on the judging panel of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2026.

Briefing his guest on the city’s socio-economic development achievements since the beginning of 2026, Mr. Hung emphasized that Da Nang aimed to become one of Vietnam’s and Southeast Asia’s leading socio-economic centers by 2030.

By 2045, it eyes becoming a major ecological and smart city, a hub for startups and innovation, and a livable coastal city of regional Asian standing.

The city leader expressed his delight at the increasingly positive relationship between Da Nang and Indonesia through delegation exchanges and cooperation among government agencies, businesses and localities from both sides.

In particular, tourism cooperation has produced encouraging results, notably the launch of the direct Bali - Da Nang air route in March 2026. As a result, Da Nang welcomed 28,712 Indonesian visitors during the first five months of 2026.

Chairman Nguyen Manh Hung voiced his hope that the Indonesian diplomat would support the establishment of an official friendship relationship between Da Nang and Denpasar City in Bali Province, paving the way for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in tourism, culture, sports, and economics.

He also asked for help from Mr. Adam M. Tugio to call on more Indonesian investors to explore cooperation opportunities in important projects in the city, including the Hi-Tech Park, seaport infrastructure, metro system, urban development projects, the International Financial Center and the Free Trade Zone.

In addition, he hoped the ambassador will help facilitate visits by Indonesian state and government delegations to Da Nang, especially in the areas of smart cities, high technology and sustainable development.

For his part, Ambassador Adam M. Tugio praised Da Nang’s socio-economic achievements, especially its tourism potential. He also expressed confidence that DIFF will continue to strengthen its reputation and attract more visitors.

He stated that he will do his utmost to boost cooperation between Da Nang and Indonesian localities and businesses, as well as enhance cultural exchanges to further strengthen the friendship between the two countries.

The enhanced cooperation between Da Nang and Indonesian partners will contribute to raising bilateral trade between Indonesia and Vietnam to US$18 billion by 2028. This also will help realize the shared vision of both countries in becoming high-income nations by 2045.
