DNO - Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong, on April 20, led a Da Nang delegation on a working visit to the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Johor State, Malaysia.
During the session, Vice Chairman Tran Chi Cuong thanked PTP representatives for their warm reception and valuable insights while highlighting Da Nang’s role as a central Vietnam hub for trade and logistics and its plan to develop a Free Trade Zone linked to Lien Chieu Port.
Nasution Saad Putra, Head of Government Liaison and Free Zone Authority, along with port leaders, welcomed the delegation and introduced the development of PTP, expressing readiness to share management and operational experience.
PTP is one of Southeast Asia’s largest container transshipment ports, located about 25km northwest of Singapore, serving as a strategic logistics gateway for Malaysia and the region, and playing a key role in the ASEAN trade corridor.
Soren Kofoed Jensen, Head of Investments for Asia and the Middle East at APM Terminals (APMT Group), also joined the session. APMT, part of the AP Moller, Maersk Company (Denmark), operates more than 60 port facilities across 38 countries, providing terminal, inland and integrated logistics services from its headquarters in The Hague (Netherlands).
In Malaysia, APMT operates the Port of Tanjung Pelepas and is one of two investors in the Lien Chieu Port project in Da Nang, which is launched on March 28, 2026.
Within the working session, the delegation conducted a field survey at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, where APMT and PTP shared experience in operating automated port models, logistics management, customs coordination, investor attraction and the integration of port and free trade zone operations.
Later, the delegation worked with the Iskandar Regional Development Authority, discussing master planning, governance models, investment policies, customs procedures and digital trade systems for free trade zones and industrial parks.
Talks also covered multimodal connectivity, infrastructure prioritisation, human resource development and international cooperation, with both sides agreeing to establish focal points for information exchange and explore future collaboration.
The Iskandar Regional Development Authority is a Malaysian federal agency serving as a coordination hub between the public and private sectors in planning, promoting and implementing the development of Iskandar Malaysia.
It plays key roles in strategy formulation, investment promotion, investor support and inter-agency coordination to build a modern, sustainable economic zone. Its experience offers valuable insights for developing the management and operation model of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone.
