The plan aims to support Vietnam’s strategy for strengthening relations with Japan through 2030. It prioritises cooperation and investment attraction from Japanese partners in modern, high-tech, and sustainable agriculture.

Da Nang will promote the use of AI, automation, blockchain, and biotechnology in agriculture, including smart farming and supply chain monitoring. The city also plans pilot high-quality production zones meeting Japan’s standards and will strengthen market connections to secure stable outlets.

In addition, Da Nang aims to expand exports of agricultural, forestry, and processed food products to Japan to support sustainable agricultural and economic growth.

To implement the plan, Da Nang has assigned coordination tasks to relevant agencies, including the Department of Science and Technology of Da Nang, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Nang, the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang, the Department of Finance of Da Nang, and the University of Da Nang.

Currently, Japan remains a key partner, with Da Nang maintaining official cooperation with six Japanese localities and exchanges with more than 20 others.

Da Nang currently hosts 301 active FDI projects from Japan worth USD 1.22 billion. In 2025, exports to Japan reached about USD 1 billion, while imports totalled around USD 488 million.

However, cooperation remains limited in depth, focusing mainly on cultural exchange, labour cooperation, and human resource development. The new 2026 - 2030 cooperation plan is expected to expand and deepen collaboration, aligning it with the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan.
