DNO - Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi hosted a meeting on Wednesday with Ms. Elizabeth Satow, the Area Vice President for Asia and the Pacific at Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) to discuss programs supporting vulnerable communities in the city.

At the meeting, Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Anh Thi highly appreciated HFHI’s practical contributions in Vietnam in general and Da Nang in particular, especially through projects aimed at improving housing, clean water access, sanitation, and climate change adaptation.
HFHI's initiatives in Vietnam have contributed to enhancing the quality of life for locals, especially poor and near-poor households as well as vulnerable groups in disadvantaged areas.
Providing an update on local conditions, Mrs. Thi said Da Nang has been making significant efforts to implement various social welfare programs, housing support initiatives, and sustainable poverty reduction schemes. However, the city's resources remained limited.
The city currently has 1,686 temporary and dilapidated houses belonging to families of people with meritorious services, and poor and near-poor households, that need to be rebuilt or repaired.
Therefore, she voiced her hope that HFHI will continue supporting housing construction and renovation programs for poor and near-poor households, ethnic minority communities, and other vulnerable groups in the city.
She also called on HFHI to continue partnering in developing climate-resilient and disaster-resistant housing models, improving clean water and sanitation systems, and expanding international volunteer activities in the locality.
She pledged that the city will create all favorable conditions for the continued effective implementation of HFHI’s cooperation programs in the future.
On behalf of HFHI, Ms. Elizabeth Satow stated that the housing needs of vulnerable groups required the joint efforts of governments, businesses, social organizations, and local communities.
She also affirmed that HFHI will continue strengthening cooperation with Da Nang, supporting disadvantaged residents, and promoting sustainable housing models in the coming years.
In 2026, HFHI is supporting the construction of 16 new houses in Que Son and Que Son Trung communes, with completion and handover expected by the end of September 2026.
In addition, the organization is continuing to implement projects on clean water, sanitation, and climate change adaptation in the communes of Phuoc Tra, Tra Giap, Tra Doc, Lanh Ngoc, and Thanh Binh.
