DNO - Da Nang is making every effort to encourage local businesses to shift into green production, such as using energy efficiency, reducing emissions, adopting circular economy practices, and embracing technological innovation. This enables businesses to reduce costs in production while contributing directly to the city's sustainable development.

Proactive action from local businesses
In Da Nang's industrial parks, the green transition is no longer merely a slogan but an economic solution. In fact, businesses that pioneer green transition in production will "reap the fruits."
Ba Loc Producing Adhesive & Abrasive Cloth Industrial Company Limited, located in Hoa Khanh Industrial Park, Da Nang, has started its "greening" journey by using efficient energy. In 2020, the company established a rooftop solar power system.
As a result, the monthly electricity bill dropped from a range of VND25 - 35 million to approximately VND4 million. By maximizing the use of solar energy for daytime production activities, the company has reduced its reliance on fossil fuels while directly lowering its greenhouse gas emissions.
Alongside, the company has achieved a breakthrough by upgrading the heating system for its steam boilers. By installing solar-powered heating equipment to preheat the primary water supply, the daily oil consumption has reduced from 100% to just about 25%.
Similarly, Da Nang Rubber Joint Stock Company (DRC) demonstrates that a circular economy can be effectively implemented in large-scale production lines. Currently, 100% of the steam boilers at DRC use biomass fuel. This initiative not only reduces production costs but also contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Mr. Phan Chi Cong, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at DRC, said another of its key achievements is the "regeneration” of waste materials, such as turning rubber dust and waste into useful products, including dock fenders, roofing sheets, mudflaps, and paving tiles.
This internal re-use strategy saves the company 1.5 tons of polyester (PE) fabric per month. Furthermore, the complete replacement of the accelerator "MOR" with safer chemical alternatives underscores the company’s commitment to its employees' and consumers' health.
Creating a sustainable ecosystem
Da Nang has proactively launched pilot models for cleaner industrial production. Based on this foundation, the city has gradually scaled up its operations to support local businesses meeting stringent international standards.

Specifically, the relevant municipal departments and agencies have intensified communication and training activities focused on greenhouse gas accounting in accordance with the ISO 14064-1:2018 standard.
Furthermore, local businesses have been supported in accurately identifying their emission sources through specialised workshops, enabling them to apply optimal solutions to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
Mr. Tran Dinh Tuan, Deputy Head of the Industrial Management Division, the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade, affirmed that developing the industrial sector towards “green lines” while promoting a circular economy are key priorities for enhancing the competitiveness of Da Nang goods.
This initiative to support businesses in adopting the ISO 14001 environmental management system has successfully enhanced awareness and cultivated a sense of responsibility within the local business community.
Nevertheless, on-site recycling capabilities and access to capital for cleaner production systems remain significant challenges for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). To resolve these difficulties, the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade continues to complete specific policy mechanisms, thereby not only supporting resources and professional training but also facilitating the transfer of modern technology.
Notably, the "industrial symbiosis" trend will be ramped up. It is a model in which the waste or by-products of one enterprise serve as raw materials for another, creating a closed-loop production network that minimizes environmental impact.
Clearly, in the context of climate change and globally stringent environmental standards, Da Nang has identified green industrial development as inevitable trend. From the implementation of modest energy-saving measures to the construction of a circular economic ecosystem, the city’s industrial sector is being put on “a modern and green coat.”
