DNO - Da Nang authorities, on October 20, had a working session with a Lao delegation led by Deputy Secretary of Sekong Province and Chairman of the provincial Administrative Committee Khanti Silavongsa to discuss a traffic diversion plan for the Nam Giang - Dak Ta-Ook during the construction phase of National Highway 14D in the city.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Ky Minh and Deputy Secretary of Sekong Province and Chairman of the provincial Administrative Committee Khanti Silavongsa co-chaired the meeting.

During the discussion, Mr. Khanti Silavongsa emphasized that National Highway 14D, a 74.4 km route connecting the Ho Chi Minh Highway to the Nam Giang (Da Nang) - Dak Ta-Ook (Sekong) international border gates, plays a vital role in the East-West Economic Corridor. It facilitates the transport of agricultural and industrial goods and fosters economic development in the border region.

Upgrading the National Highway 14D in Da Nang side, which links Vietnam’s Nam Giang International Border Gate with Laos’ Dak Ta-Ook International Border Gate, will further strengthen trade between the two localities.

Given the potential challenges during the construction phase, the Sekong leader proposed that both sides coordinate to reach an agreement on a specific traffic diversion plan. This ensures traffic safety while minimizing any impact on construction progress or the transport of goods between the two sides.

The Sekong leader hoped Da Nang and Sekong would continue their coordination to address challenges in transport connectivity, thereby helping to effectively explore trade potential and foster economic development between the two localities.

Alongside, Da Nang and Sekong need to coordinate with relevant businesses to seek suitable transit solutions, thereby facilitating import and export activities.

The upgrade of National Highway 14D is expected to be completed in 2027. Once operational, it will facilitate trade exchange and boost economic connectivity between Da Nang and Sekong.

This contributes to strengthening the special friendship and solidarity relations, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Laos in general and between Da Nang and Sekong in particular.
