The visit strengthened the growing friendship between Hai Chau and Uiwang and highlighted the ward’s proactive approach to international integration.

The delegation of 10 lower-secondary students from Hai Chau took part in a student exchange programme between the two localities, Hai Chau’s first-ever people-to-people diplomacy initiative with a foreign partner.

The programme is expected to serve as a foundation for future cooperation at the grassroots level, spanning culture, education, innovation and socio-economic development.

During their stay in South Korea, the students joined a wide range of cultural and experiential activities, including South Korean language classes, traditional culinary sessions, music workshops and visits to historical and tourist sites.

A key highlight of the trip was the homestay experience, which allowed students to live with families in Uiwang, immerse themselves in daily life and build personal bonds with local residents.

Nguyen Pham Thanh Ha, a ninth-grade student at Nguyen Hue Lower Secondary School, said the trip offered invaluable insights and unforgettable memories.

Welcomed warmly by their hosts, the students quickly formed friendships with their South Korean peers. In every conversation, Ha said she proudly introduced the beauty, culture, and people of Da Nang, helping promote her hometown to international friends.

“We didn’t just explore Korean culture, we also practiced the language, learned new skills and gained confidence. After the trip, I feel more mature, more self-assured, and more motivated to improve myself for future global engagement,” she shared.

Officials say exchanges like this strengthen not only cultural understanding but also trust between the two communities.

Ms Pham Thi Thuy Phuong, the Chief of Office of Hai Chau Ward’s People’s Council and People’s Committee, emphasised that participating students serve as “cultural ambassadors”, helping foster deeper mutual understanding.

She added that this goodwill lays the groundwork for future cooperation in areas such as economic development, investment, education and training, healthcare, science and technology, and startup innovation.

Hai Chau and Uiwang City first signed a friendship exchange agreement in July 2021.

Despite disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, both sides have sustained meaningful collaboration, including student exchanges launched in October 2023 and maintained through the present, further cementing their long-standing ties.
