Choosing Da Nang for medical treatment
In recent times, many medical facilities across Da Nang have reported an increasing number of international patients coming for medical consultations and treatment.
Ms. B. Jade Alix, a 29-year-old British national with a rare blood type (B-), had to wait more than four years for treatment within the UK’s healthcare system. After researching and assessing the professional expertise of doctors in Vietnam, she decided to come to Da Nang for treatment at the Phan Chau Trinh University Medical Hospital.
After medical examinations, doctors diagnosed her with ovarian cysts and recommended surgical removal. The surgery was successfully performed, and the female patient was discharged in stable condition after just three days.
Another case is Mr. Kunnuvila Mohammad Rayaan Yohannankutty, 39, Indian nationality, who had undergone seven bone surgeries in various countries and chose Da Nang for his eighth surgery.
Beyond modern medicine, traditional medicine services at the Da Nang Traditional Medicine Hospital have also been selected by many international patients for long-term treatment programs.
A typical example is Mr. Usmanov Eduard, 56-year-old Russian nationality, who suffered post-stroke sequelae and underwent treatment at the hospital for approximately five months. His condition improved markedly, enabling him to live independently, and he has come to regard the hospital as his “second home”.
According to Dr. Nguyen Phuong Thao, Head of the Medical Tourism Unit at the Da Nang Traditional Medicine Hospital, the number of international patients seeking medical examination and treatment has increased sharply since the medical tourism model was implemented at both of the hospital’s facilities. In 2025 alone, the hospital received 1,691 international and 1,222 domestic visitors who looked for healthcare combined with traditional medicine treatment.

Towards a leading medical tourism hub in Central Vietnam
The growing number of international patients to Da Nang in recent years reflects the global development trend of medical tourism and demonstrates increasing confidence among foreign patients in the city’s healthcare system.
To respond to this trend, the Da Nang Traditional Medicine Hospital has invested in renovating its infrastructure and upgrading diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation equipment, with a focus on integrating traditional and modern medicine.
Additionally, treatment spaces are designed to be friendly and private, while doctors and medical technicians receive advanced professional training, enhanced foreign-language communication skills, and service orientations tailored to international patients.
In the field of modern medicine, many large hospitals such as Phan Chau Trinh University Medical Hospital and Da Nang Hospital are also promoting the development of medical tourism.
In particular, the Da Nang Hospital has established a dedicated outpatient and inpatient area for international patients under a closed-loop service process, whilst having signed cooperation agreements with global insurance companies to facilitate medical expense payments.
The Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is developing a project on medical tourism and high-quality medical examination and treatment services for the 2025 - 2030 period, with the aim of positioning Vietnam as a leading healthcare center in the region.
Under the roadmap, by 2030, at least five key localities, namely Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Quang Ninh and Khanh Hoa, are expected to implement integrated medical tourism models combining hospitals, hotels, resorts and travel agencies.
