DNO - Bat Cave (Hang Dơi) in Thanh Binh Commune, Da Nang feels like a portal to 'the Jurassic era', with wild, secluded, and steeped in ancient charm.
Recently, Da Nang authorities officially recognized it as a provincial-level heritage site, a step that could turn this “hidden green gem” into a notable eco-tourism destination.
Bat Cave offers explorers a blend of rugged natural beauty and geological intrigue. The road there winds through lush fruit gardens, terraced fields, and rolling hills before reaching a small vine-covered hill that conceals the cave’s entrance.
Unlike the grandeur of Son Doong or Phong Nha, Bat Cave has a quiet, contemplative appeal. It consists of two branches: Fairy Cave, with a 10-metre-high arch and cool underground streams, and Heaven Cave, with unique rock walls and open spaces. Sunlight spilling through the entrances glitters on moss carpets and stone surfaces shaped over millions of years.
Massive rock formations, irregular yet harmonious, preserve traces of geological history. Vines and roots weave through crevices, while startled bats occasionally flutter out into the light. For 68-year-old local resident Tran Thi Lieu, the site is tied to childhood memories and once-sacred rituals of the community.
The new heritage designation is just the beginning. Authorities and locals hope to protect the cave’s wild beauty while promoting responsible tourism. For visitors, each step inside is more than an adventure, it is a return to pristine nature and to a shared vision of preserving a greener future.
