Neglected riverbanks and forgotten patches of land have been reborn into inviting “chill corners” - spaces where locals and visitors alike come to slow down, soak up the scenery, and reconnect with the city’s soul.

One of the most captivating spots lies at the edge of land and sea, where the Han River meets the open waters. As the sun dips low, the embankment at the end of Tran Hung Dao Street draws people seeking to watch fishing boats slip into the horizon beneath the golden glow. By nightfall, the Thuan Phuoc Bridge twinkles overhead, casting shimmering reflections across the water.

Nearby, the eastern end of the Nguyen Van Troi Pedestrian Bridge has become a charming check-in spot for visitors, offerring a popular promenade for both tourists and locals when the city lights come on.

The Nguyen Van Troi Pedestrian Bridge has evolved into a favourite gathering place for young people to stroll or simply take in the view. The city has enhanced the setting with lush lawns and an abundance of trees, creating pocket-sized parks at both ends of the bridge.

Among the regulars is Robin Van Wyk, better known as Bisko, a South African traveler whose TikTok stories about life in Vietnam have won him more than 100,000 followers. For him, strumming a guitar on the bridge at dusk is a ritual of calm and connection to the city, its people and the river’s gentle rhythm.

Venturing further, the winding road to the Son Tra Peninsula offers yet another perfect lookout. From here, the coastline stretches from the peninsula’s green slopes to the Marble Mountains. On one side stretches the boundless blue of the sea; on the other, towering skyscrapers shaped by human hands. Together, they frame the view of a young, modern city racing forward with each passing day.

Da Nang’s “chill corners” aren’t luxurious or grand. They’re simple spaces riverside patches, shaded lawns, hilltop bends where nature and city meet in harmony. In a city racing toward the future, these pockets of calm remind everyone to pause, breathe, and fall in love with the place they’re in.
