25th International Mathematics Competition opens in Da Nang, Vietnam

DNO - The 25th International Mathematics Competition in Da Nang, Vietnam (VIMC 2025) officially opened on the afternoon of August 15 at the Vietnam - Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU).

Among important attendees at the opening ceremony was Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, who delivered a welcome address.

This year’s edition brings together 526 students, 181 teachers, and 100 international guests from 30 countries and territories around the world.

Following the standards of the International Mathematics Competition (IMC), VIMC 2025 features two divisions: Key Stage II (Grades 5 - 6) and Key Stage III (Grades 7 - 8).

Each participant must compete in two mandatory individual and team contests, with test questions selected from proposals submitted by participating countries.

The final papers have been compiled and approved by the international organizing committee coordinated by the Chiu Chang Mathematics Education Foundation.

Awards will be presented in three categories: Individual, team and overall delegation.

Earlier in the day, contestants compete in the ‘Puzzle Challenge’, a fast-paced, interactive activity designed to enhance logical thinking, foster teamwork and encourage cross-cultural interaction.

Concurrently, VKU hosted the international conference ‘Advanced AI Models and Data Science’ drawing leading scholars and experts to share cutting-edge research and strengthen academic collaboration.

In his speech, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Tran Anh Tuan highlighted Da Nang’s reputation as a green, clean, and friendly city with a forward-looking spirit of innovation.

He underscored the city’s strong commitment to attracting and nurturing talent in key sectors such as education, healthcare, information technology, AI and semiconductor technology.

Also, Da Nang has always paid special heed to international cooperation, sending officials abroad for training and inviting global experts to work in the city, with an aim of building a competitive and globally integrated academic environment.

The official competition of VIMC 2025 is held on August 16, when participants tackle both individual and team challenges, including problem-solving and reasoning tasks, aiming for top scores in mathematics.

VIMC 2025 is more than a competition, it is a celebration of knowledge, passion and international friendship.

IMC is an annual academic playground held on a rotational basis among member countries, bringing together mathematically gifted students from more than 40 countries and territories around the world. It is one of the most prestigious international mathematics competitions for students of upper primary and lower secondary education.

At the same time, IMC serves as a valuable international platform that offers young mathematical talents the opportunity to challenge themselves, develop their mathematical abilities, engage in academic exchange, foster creativity and advance their potential in mathematical research.
