What travellers take home from Da Nang is more than just a gift

As global travellers increasingly seek authentic cultural experiences, souvenirs are no longer viewed as simple keepsakes but as extensions of a destination’s identity.

In Da Nang, locally made crafts and food products are playing a growing role in shaping how visitors remember and reconnect with the city after they return home.

One example is Conomi, a small souvenir brand founded by Nguyen Van Binh, a resident in Da Nang. Using laser-cut wood combined with hand assembly, Binh creates compact two- and three-dimensional models inspired by Da Nang’s most recognizable landmarks.

His designs include the Han River Bridge, Dragon Bridge, Tran Thi Ly Bridge, Son Tra Peninsula, the Marble Mountains, Da Nang Cathedral and the Museum of Da Nang.

Rather than reproducing every architectural detail, the models focus on clean, essential lines that allow travellers to instantly recognize each landmark.

The lightweight wooden materials and compact formats are designed specifically for easy transport, making them practical gifts for international visitors.

As tourism has rebounded, demand has grown not only from tourists but also from souvenir retailers and local customers seeking customized items.

Local cuisine is undergoing a similar transformation. Ho Thi Nhuc from Cam Le Ward has adapted the traditional bamboo-tube sausage into a travel-friendly specialty.

Through improved processing and packaging, beef, veal and shrimp sausages can now be frozen and stored for up to six months, meeting the needs of travelers carrying food across borders.

Each product branded Cocimo includes information about the craft village, preparation guidelines and the cultural origins of the dish, helping visitors understand the story behind what they purchase.

Along the same lines, many Da Nang specialty producers are upgrading their products to meet the expectations of modern travelers.

From fish sauce and dried seafood to processed marine products and OCOP (One Commune - One Product)-certified items, greater attention is being paid to quality, packaging and portability.

Compact, easy-to-carry gift sets that reflect coastal flavors, local symbolism and everyday life in Da Nang are increasingly becoming the preferred choice among visitors.

According to Nguyen Duc Quynh, the Chairman of the Da Nang Hotel Association, local souvenirs and specialties are becoming Da Nang’s lasting signature for international visitors, extending the city’s story beyond the trip and strengthening its tourism brand through carefully crafted, culturally rooted products rather than mass production.
