DNO - Vietnam’s tourism sector recorded a landmark year in 2025, establishing new records in international arrivals, revenue and global recognition.

This sector is positioning itself as a key driver of the country’s economic and social growth in the years ahead.
Welcoming 20 million international visitors in a single year
As reported by the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, Vietnam’s tourism industry reached an unprecedented milestone by welcoming 20 million international visitors in a single year, a historic first in its 65-year development.
More than 19.1 million foreign arrivals were recorded in the first 11 months of 2025, representing a 20.9% increase year-on-year and surpassing the pre-pandemic peak of 2019.
The achievement not only reaffirmed Vietnam’s rising profile on the global tourism map but also reflected the country’s success in diversifying source markets and attracting high-spending, long-stay travellers.
These efforts are central to the government’s goal of generating VND 1 quadrillion (approximately US$ 40 billion) in tourism revenue in 2025.
Tourism growth has been particularly strong in key destinations such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh and Da Nang, where both international and domestic visitor numbers surged.
In particular, Da Nang continued to consolidate its position as a tourism hub in central Vietnam.
The resumption and expansion of international flight routes, combined with a year-round calendar of festivals, sporting events, cultural activities and beach tourism, helped drive rapid recovery across accommodation, food services and recreational industries, sustaining the city’s economic momentum.

One of the fastest-growing tourism markets in the world
Globally, Vietnam stood out as one of the fastest-growing tourism markets in 2025.
The UN Tourism ranked Vietnam among countries with the highest tourism growth rate worldwide, at around 21%, far exceeding the global average of 5% and the Asia-Pacific regional average of 8%.
The year also marked intensified international promotion efforts by the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, targeting major markets in Europe, Russia, India, China, the United States, Australia, South Korea and Japan.
Vietnam further enhanced its global visibility by promoting tourism through cinema at the Cannes Film Festival, while domestic demand was stimulated through the “Vietnam - Travel to Love” tourism stimulus programme, National Tourism Year - Hue 2025, and the Vietnam Tourism Awards 2025.
Vietnam’s tourism appeal was reinforced by a series of prestigious international accolades in 2025. UN Tourism recognized Lo Lo Chai and Quynh Son as the World’s Best Tourism Villages.
Vietnam was named the World’s Leading Heritage Destination for the sixth time and Asia’s Leading Destination for the seventh.
Other honours included Dong Van Karst Plateau as the World’s Leading Local Cultural Destination, Moc Chau as the World’s Leading Local Natural Destination, Tam Dao as the World’s Leading Tourist Town, and Phu Quoc as the World’s Leading Natural Island Destination.
Vietnam is expected to welcome 21.5 million international visitors and 135.5 million domestic trips in 2025, with tourism revenue exceeding VND 1 quadrillion, contributing an estimated 8.8% directly to GDP.
Looking ahead, Vietnam aims to attract 25 million international visitors and serve 150 million domestic travelers in 2026, with total tourism revenue projected at VND 1.1 quadrillion.
With sustained momentum, tourism is poised to become a strategic pillar of Vietnam’s ambition to achieve double-digit GDP growth in the 2026 - 2030 period.
