(QNO) - On May 28, the Quang Nam Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with the Department of Climate Change, the United Nations Environment Progamme (UNEP), and the Global Green Growth Insitute (GGGI), held a consultation workshop on the Urban Cooling Action Plans (UCAP) in Tam Ky city.
The workshop was attended by leaders from the Department of Climate Change (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), representatives of various provincial departments and agencies, domestic and international experts and others.
The event marked an important step toward finalizing the draft Urban Cooling Action Plans (UCAP), aiming to develop a green, sustainable, and climate-resilient Tam Ky city.
According to research, the temperature difference between urban and rural areas in Tam Ky could reach up to 8°C, and heavy labor productivity could potentially decline by 39% by 2070 if timely solutions are not implemented.
Over the past two years, with technical support from UNEP and GGGI, experts and consulting units have conducted measurements, surveys, field assessments, and microclimate analyses, and proposed the Tam Ky Urban Cooling Action Plans (UCAP).
Speaking at the workshop, a representative from the Department of Agriculture and Environment emphasized that urban cooling is not merely a single technical solution, but a comprehensive strategy that contributes to Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. At the same time, it supports the creation of a safe and healthy living environment for residents.
The workshop expressed the expectation that Tam Ky would become a model for local-level climate change adaptation, driven by the joint efforts of government agencies, international organizations, businesses, and the local community.
