(QNO) - The Co Tu community in Ta Bhing (Nam Giang, Quang Nam) has made significant strides in developing sustainable livelihoods through community-based tourism, aided by the Co Tu - Nam Giang Community Tourism Cooperative and the Zara Textile Cooperative.
Earlier this year, the Co Tu – Nam Giang Community Tourism Cooperative won the ASEAN Tourism Award 2025 for Community Tourism, marking the second time it has been recognised, following a previous win in 2019.
The cooperative, led by artisans and local youth passionate about Co Tu traditions, has contributed to social welfare and community well-being. It not only generates income but also preserves and promotes local cultural heritage, creating a dynamic interaction between the community and visitors.
Visitors to Ta Bhing can experience traditional Co Tu cultural performances, such as gongs, traditional singing and dancing, and enjoy authentic local cuisine.
They can also visit the Zara Textile Village, where skilled artisans weave and sell handcrafted goods, further supporting local livelihoods.
The cooperative’s success in blending tourism with cultural preservation has attracted many visitors, particularly from Asia, with Japan being the largest contributor. The cooperative aims to continue promoting local culture and expanding its tourism offerings.
Through community tourism, the Zara Textile Village has revived its craft, providing jobs and boosting economic development in the area. The cooperative also produces a wide range of handwoven goods, which have gained popularity both locally and internationally.
Looking ahead, the cooperative plans to enhance its efforts, improve community-based tourism skills, and foster connections with travel agencies to increase exposure and attract more visitors.
