Spreading kindness

When the city falls quiet late at night, members of the Phuoc Loc Tho 43 Volunteer Team in Da Nang begin riding motorbikes through darkened streets. They silently assist residents in distress during the late hours, spreading kindness and good community values.

Mr. Nguyen Van An, residing in Thanh Khe Ward, is one of many people that the team has helped. Returning home after a night shift in late June, his motorbike suffered a flat tire on Dien Bien Phu Street.

At that time, all the repair shops were closed, he had no choice but to push his motorbike along the road in the dark. A while later, a relative recommended him to contact the Phuoc Loc Tho 43 Volunteer Team for help. Within around 25 minutes, a group of young volunteers arrived and helped him patch the tire for free and encouraged him to have a safe journey.

“Receiving such help in the middle of the night was incredibly moving. Not everyone is willing to go out in the middle of the night to help strangers. I truly appreciate and thank the meaningful actions of the volunteer team” An shared.

Founded in 2022 by a group of young Da Nang people who share the desire to spread kindness and the spirit of mutual love, the Phuoc Loc Tho 43 Volunteer Team offers free late-night motorbike repairs, assists traffic accident victims, and helps locate missing children.

Initially, all operating costs were contributed by the group members themselves. Over time, their goodwill has inspired others, and the team has gradually received support from benefactors who believe in their mission.

Group leader Le Dinh Tuan shared “On average, we support two to three breakdown cases each night, in addition to helping accident victims and lost children. Everything is done free of charge. We hope that no one will be left alone on the road at night”.

After nearly 3 years of operation, the team has become a support for many people who have problems at night. In early May 2025, Ms. Trinh Thi Thanh Thao had her motorbike broke down when going out with her friends in Hoa Khanh Ward. Upon receiving her call, the team traveled from Hai Chau to assist her.

Notably, many people after being helped asked to join the team. Mr. Hoang Van Hung, a resident in Cam Le Ward, is one such case. Once a beneficiary of the team’s help, he is now an enthusiastic volunteer.

"Every time I help someone, I feel a deep sense of warmth. I hope other young people, if possible, will join the team to spread kindness" Mr. Hung said.

The team currently has 15 members who take turns working overnight shifts and handle incidents from the city center to remote areas such as Hoa Tien Commune, Hoa Khanh Ward and Son Tra Ward. Despite their enthusiasm, the team still faces some difficulties such as lack of operating funds, repair equipment and inflatable boats and life jackets to support a new initiative in water rescue operations.

In the midst of a hectic life, it is deeply heartening to see young people willing to give their time and efforts without pay or the desire for recognition in order to help their communities. The Phuoc Loc Tho 43 Da Nang team does not need titles or publicity. The greatest recognition for them is a grateful eyes, a warm handshake in the middle of the night, contributing to spreading compassion and kindness for the community.
