DNO - Small traders in traditional markets in Da Nang are gradually changing their mindset and proactively diversifying their business methods in order to catch up with the digital economy, thereby enhancing their competitiveness in the market.

The strong development of modern retail systems such as shopping malls, supermarkets, and convenience stores, and e-commerce activities, have directly affected the business activities of small traders in traditional markets.

In particular, traditional markets have promoted the use of cashless payments and have initially seen success. Noticeboards "accepting transfers" or QR codes for payment are no longer strange with marketgoers.

Many small traders have also brought products from the market to e-commerce or social networking platforms, aimed at expanding consumption channels and reach customers.

For nearly a year, Mrs. Le Thi Hoa, a clothing vendor at the Con Market in Hai Chau Ward, has adapted to selling goods through livestreaming, a practice she never thought she would do before.

Mrs. Hoa utilizes a smartphone and a specialized lamp as livestreaming equipment. Every day, she conducts one livestream session daily at a fixed time, typically lasting approximately two hours.

In addition to livestreaming sessions, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nhung, a trader at the Tam Ky Market, has also promoted the sale of her household goods on e-commerce platforms and social networks as well. Overcoming initial obstacles, she now has a certain number of followers on Facebook and Shopee.

According to many traders, selling goods through livestreaming can help them increase monthly revenue by 20 - 40% compared to traditional methods. The sales channel does not require initial investment costs such as premises and labour.

Some traders have also expanded to provide diverse services such as home delivery, and fresh food processing. Thanks to that, trading activities at traditional markets have developed steadily, therefore meeting the needs of consumers better.

“In an increasingly competitive business environment, small traders have proactively applied digital technology in order to save costs, expand customer base and gradually enhance the image of traditional markets in modern consumption trends” said Mr. Nguyen Van Tru, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade.
