Rot blogger: Da Nang native spreads Vietnam’s hidden beauty to world

Translated by MAI DUNG Oct 26, 2025 08:39

DNO - Bui Ngoc Cong, also better known by his online moniker Rot Blogger, has recreated the wandering journey of his youth through simple but heartfelt stories about people, homeland and country. His short films are both a journey to discover Vietnam and a way to preserve the memories of a generation.

Rot Blogger and his journey to discover new lands.

Born in 1998 in Dong Duong Commune, former Quang Nam, Bui Ngoc Cong found his passion for content creation during the COVID-19 pandemic when the "online travel" became a trend on social network sites.

With just a smartphone and earnest curiosity, Cong, a journalism student at the University of Education and Science - the University of Da Nang, started sharing short films about Da Nang, Ha Noi and some neighboring localities. At first, he only saw it as a hobby during the social distancing period, but then the growing number of followers and their encouraging feedback lit a fire of passion in him.

His first trips as a travel blogger were full of challenges from lack of money and lack of experience to even moments of doubt after unexpected falls in the middle of a mountain pass.

However, Cong believed: "If you keep going, you will get there. If you don't go, you will never get there". From that belief, he decided to launch his channel "Blog Cua Rot" with a simple but clear message: "Bringing the beauty of Vietnam to everyone".

What makes Rot's style different is not the number of check-ins at famous landmarks, but the way he listens and tells the story of the land in his own way.

There are no elaborate scripts, no large crews - only a keen heart and a camera ready to capture fleeting moments.

Through his lens, viewers can see the smile of a street vendor, a peaceful afternoon on terraced fields or the sparkling sunlight on Ha Noi’s ancient rooftops, all of which are genuine, rustic but rich in emotion.

Born in former Quang Nam Province but maturing through his university years in Da Nang, Cong said he has never separated the two places. Both are always present in every frame with the unmistakable spirit of Central Vietnam: modest, profound, sometimes melancholic, yet full of warmth.

He not only seeks out famous destinations but also lesser-traveled lands such as a peaceful Hoa Bac in the middle of the mountains and forests, a bustling Tam Tien market at dawn, an island commune of Tam Hai with majestic rocky cliffs, or the majestic Tay Giang mountains.

Besides Da Nang, Ha Noi has become Cong’s second home. "Ha Noi is modern but ancient, giving me many opportunities to grow up", he shared. From this city, his creative journey expanded with bolder trips, more refined productions, and a five-year evolution into one of Vietnam’s promising travel storytellers.

Bui Ngoc Cong carried out the project "Selling photos to raise funds" to support people affected by storms and floods.

In addition to capturing images, Cong carries out projects with profound community meaning. In 2024, when Typhoon Yagi devastated Central Vietnam, he launched a “Photo Fundraiser” project and raised nearly VND 50 million in just three days to support people in flood-affected areas.

This year, he is preparing to launch the project’s second season, scheduled to be implemented before Tet to bring joy to children in remote mountain areas.

Cong’s journey continues without traveling all of Vietnam but recording and sharing untold stories hidden within it. He always believes that each season or each land changes over time, and those quiet areas still await their moment to shine.

With a quiet but consistent mindset, Cong is bringing the beauty of Vietnam to everyone with love, responsibility, and the heart of a Vietnamese person.
