(QNO) - To protect and sustainably develop natural ecosystems, relevant agencies are collaborating with local authorities and communities in Quang Nam province to restore the Earth’s vital "green lungs."
In Tien An commune (Tien Phuoc district), the lush Duong Nua forest blankets the mountains, a sight preserved through a decade of effort by the local Forest Protection and Management Team.
Since 2015, the team has demarcated natural forests from production areas, conducted bi-monthly patrols, and planted 2,400 native trees in deforested zones.
This forest, adjacent to the Thanh Cong reservoir and Hang Doi (Bat Cave) eco-tourism site, plays a critical role in water regulation, drought prevention, and future eco-tourism development.
Similarly, in Tra Giac commune (Bac Tra My district), the Forest Protection Management Board works alongside ethnic minority communities to combat deforestation.
By promoting wet rice cultivation over slash-and-burn farming and raising legal awareness, the region has seen a decline in illegal land encroachment.
Marine ecosystems are also a focus. In Tam Tien commune, the Community Fisheries Protection Team safeguards the Ba Dau coral reef, once devastated by blast fishing and overharvesting.
Through zoning, patrols, and waste cleanup, the team has helped coral coverage and fish populations rebound.
Local fisherman Vo Hong Ron said that restored ecosystems boost sustainable fishing and attract tourism, with his homestay benefiting from the revived marine biodiversity.
Looking ahead, the team plans stricter enforcement, community funding, and eco-awareness campaigns to ensure long-term recovery.
These efforts underscore a shared commitment to healing ecosystems, from forests to seas, for a resilient future.
