(QNO) - On May 16, the Institute of Economic Construction and Urban Research and Hoi An City People's Committee inaugurated the project on coastal erosion prevention at the Cua Dai Beach at Cua Dai Community Ecological Park.
Since July 2023, the project on supporting coastal erosion prevention at Cua Dai Beach has been implemented along the Cua Dai coastline with a budget of 116,000 euros.
It involves planning and constructing a 3.2 km coastal green corridor with five main zones, building the Au Co Coastal Ecological Park, and conserving a 20-hectare coastal wetland bird habitat.
Au Co Park, covering about 10,000 m², features an ecological landscape with salt- and wind-resistant native trees, walking paths, resting pavilions, eco-friendly lighting, children’s play equipment, public facilities on concrete strips near the sea embankment, and outdoor learning areas for the community and visitors.
Dr. Nguyen Hong Hanh, Director of the Institute of Economic Construction and Urban Research, said this project was one of 25 selected by IKI (a German organisation supported by three federal ministries: Economy & Climate, Environment, and Foreign Affairs) from nearly 500 global proposals.
Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Le Van Dung highlighted the project’s importance for Cua Dai and climate-threatened areas, thanking partners and authorities for their efforts. He
hoped the project helps the region adapt to worsening climate change, which is seriously affecting the natural environment, ecosystems, people's lives, tourism activities, and the local economy.
