Vietnam promotes green hydrogen in Europe for the first time
DNO - Vietnam is showcasing its green hydrogen potential at European Hydrogen Week 2026 in Belgium, taking place from October 26 to 30, seeking to connect with European partners and join the emerging green hydrogen value chain.

According to Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Vietnam is emerging as one of Asia's most important offshore wind markets. With over 3,000 kilometers of coastline, consistently high average wind speeds, and an estimated technical potential of 1,068 GW, the country's natural resource base is exceptional.
The Vietnamese government has reinforced this with strong policy ambition, targeting 6 - 17 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 - 2035 under the revised National Power Development Plan (PDP8).
Also, Vietnam benefits from a strategically located supply chain, capabilities in oil and gas, and established onshore wind experience that can support offshore sector development.
Meanwhile, Vietnam aims to produce 100,000 - 500,000 tons of hydrogen annually by 2030 and 10 - 20 million tons by 2050. These targets align with its net-zero emissions commitment, the European Green Deal and commitments under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), according to Vietnamnews.
Alongside, Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in Belgium, Luxembourg and the EU Tran Ngoc Quang said the office has regularly participated in European Hydrogen Week since its launch in 2020, but this was the first time Vietnam had its own exhibition booth.
The trade office introduces four investment priorities of Vietnam. These include renewable hydrogen production, covering electrolysis, offshore wind-to-hydrogen, green ammonia and liquid hydrogen exports; storage, compression, pipelines, transport networks and port logistics; industrial decarbonization and fuel switching in heavy transport and shipping; and hydrogen applications in steel, fertilizers, chemicals, cement, power generation and heavy transport.
According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Quang, the office’s immediate priority is to raise awareness among European businesses and investors of Vietnam’s hydrogen strategy and commitment to clean energy.
To help turn potential into projects, the trade office aims to support European businesses with updated market data, advice on investment opportunities, incentives and legal frameworks, connections with Vietnamese partners and project developers, and dialogue with government agencies. It also introduces a Vietnam - EU trade connectivity portal for investors.
