Exploring Japanese lantern-making techniques in Hoi An
DNO - The Hoi An Center for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation, in collaboration with Legacy Brand and the Driftwood Village (Cui Lu Village) in Da Nang, on October 27, organized a workshop titled "Exploring Japanese Neputa Lantern-Making Techniques and Local Practices".

The program created a space for businesses, artists, artisans, and designers facilitating their experience while exploring traditional Japanese lantern-making techniques in a bid to foster creative ideas tailored to local conditions and materials.
A highlight of the program is a face-to-face talk by sculptor Dam Dang Lai, who has spent years studying and practicing the field of art in Japan. He has a profound understanding of making the famous Neputa lanterns of Aomori, Japan.
Through the above activities, participants have the opportunity to learn how to process and experiment with new materials to gain insight into Japanese lantern-making techniques, as well as discover potential applications for creating products in Hoi An.

Also, the program aims to connect traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design thinking, sparking fresh ideas through the cultural intersection of Vietnam and Japan.
This initiative serves as a preparation for the 2026 Hoi An International Lantern Festival, which is scheduled to take place in early December 2026.
