The event offers an opportunity to promote the values of traditional Vietnamese performing arts as well as strengthen cultural exchanges and cooperation between Vietnam and France.

Representing the central region of Vietnam, the Da Nang troupe will perform three excerpts: "An Old Man Carrying His Wife to a Festival", "On Dinh Slays Ta", and "Kim Lan Crosses the Mountain Pass".

The selected performances highlight the diversity of Tuong, ranging from humorous portrayals of everyday life to historical stories celebrating loyalty, sacrifice and friendship.

In particular, the “On Dinh Slays Ta” and “Kim Lan Crosses the Mountain Pass" are excerpts from Son Hau, a classic Tuong play that depicts the loyalty and honor of its characters as they strive to protect the crown prince.

Themed “Encounters” (Rencontre), the 2026 Vietnam Theatre Week in France is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnamese Embassy in France, and relevant agencies and organizations.

The event marks the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - UNESCO relations and forms part of the “Vietnam Days in France 2026” program.

It will feature diverse performing arts, including water puppetry, spoken drama, contemporary dance, and traditional theatrical genres such as Tuong (classical opera), Cheo (Vietnamese traditional opera), and Cai Luong (reformed opera).

In addition to live performances, the week will host professional workshops on creative direction, acting, and modern stage trends, alongside the release of a book on Vietnamese theatre compiled specifically for French readers.

Alongside other Vietnamese performing arts organizations, the participation of Da Nang’s artists will help bring traditional Vietnamese theatre to a wider international audience, create more opportunities for artistic exchange, and promote the country’s distinctive cultural identity.
