Vietnam among top fall travel destinations for 2026
DNO - Vietnam has ranked fourth among the 15 leading travel destinations for autumn 2026 in a list recently published by Lonely Planet, reflecting growing interest in journeys that combine scenic landscapes, pleasant weather and authentic local experiences.

The ranking is based on guidebook sales from late August to late September 2026, offering an indication of readers’ travel interests, from autumn foliage and seasonal attractions to destinations with warmer weather.
In its feature on Vietnam, Lonely Planet highlights the appeal of combining urban exploration, natural landscapes and everyday local life.
As temperatures ease in the north, autumn offers favorable conditions for walking through city streets, sampling local cuisine and discovering the rhythms of Vietnamese communities.
Ha Noi stands out as a destination for experiencing the season. Its lively streets, small alleyways and distinctive food culture, including the iconic pho, offer visitors an introduction to the capital’s character.
Rather than limiting their visits to major landmarks, travelers can explore neighborhood eateries, street corners and daily activities to gain a deeper understanding of local culture.
Meanwhile, Ha Long Bay is at its clearest, and the warm waters are perfect for a dip. This destination offers a contrasting experience, with limestone karsts rising from the sea and opportunities to explore the bay by boat. Its striking seascapes and island formations remain among Vietnam’s best-known natural attractions.
In the northern mountains, autumn brings another distinctive spectacle as terraced rice fields around Sa Pa and Ha Giang turn golden during the harvest season.
The landscapes provide opportunities for scenic journeys along mountain roads while allowing visitors to learn about the traditions and daily lives of local communities.
Southern Vietnam offers a warmer alternative. In Ho Chi Minh City, visitors can explore bustling streets and urban life.
Cycling through the countryside around historic Hoi An provides a slower-paced way to discover rural scenery and traditional culture.
Although some southern areas may still experience rain, the region offers additional options for travelers seeking milder seasonal contrasts. Vietnam’s appeal lies in the variety of experiences available within a single trip.
Visitors can combine culinary discoveries, heritage sites, beach escapes and mountain adventures, with each region offering its own landscapes, traditions and pace of life.
Vietnam’s fourth-place ranking underscores the appeal of its diverse travel experiences, from golden highland fields and historic towns to vibrant cities and coastal landscapes, offering international visitors a range of ways to experience the autumn season.
