A market built for longer stays

More than 400,000 visitors from Russia and the CIS arrived in Da Nang during the first eight months of 2026, up 94.2% year on year. The market accounted for about 5.8% of the city’s total international arrivals, according to tourism-sector data.

Russian arrivals alone approached 300,000, rising 151.4% from the same period in 2025. Russia consequently moved to seventh among Da Nang’s top 10 international source markets.

Other CIS markets contributed more than 112,000 arrivals, an increase of 20.8%. The surge is creating new opportunities for Da Nang to attract longer-stay visitors and increase tourism spending.

Travellers from Russia and the CIS show strong demand for extended beach holidays, sightseeing, experiential activities and wellness services.

Longer stays can help destinations generate higher tourism revenue by encouraging visitors to spend more on accommodation, dining, experiences and other services.

According to Ms Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the return of the Russian and CIS markets is helping diversify the city’s international visitor base, extend average stays and strengthen Da Nang’s profile as an international destination.

According to Anex Vietnam, the long-stay pattern of Russian and CIS travellers has helped fill an average of 5,200 hotel rooms a day nationwide.

The company’s operations have also connected Da Nang directly with travellers from 11 cities across Russia and the CIS. Mr. Vo Thai Minh, Contract Director of Anex Vietnam, said the company aims to bring 98,000 Russian and CIS visitors to Da Nang in 2027.

More than 80% of the travellers brought to Da Nang by Anex Vietnam after six months of operations chose four- or five-star hotels, with an average stay of at least 10 nights.

From digital reach to real-world demand

Da Nang has simultaneously stepped up destination promotion in these markets. One major initiative has been digital advertising through the Yandex ecosystem, a leading technology and advertising platform in Russia and CIS countries.

The campaign reached about 17.2 million users and generated approximately 63.4 million impressions and 862,700 clicks. It also drove about 523,000 visits to the Danang Fantasticity tourism website.

During May and June, Russia accounted for roughly 54 - 60% of total traffic to the portal, making it its largest source market. Offline promotion has also played a role.

In March, Da Nang participated in MITT Moscow 2026 for the first time. Its tourism booth was recognised among the Top 3 most impressive booths out of 44 exhibitors, strengthening the city's visibility among Russian and CIS tourism partners.

The city is now looking to convert growing market interest into longer stays and higher-value experiences.

Ms Nguyen Thi Hoai An said Da Nang will work with airlines, travel companies and market partners to develop more in-depth tourism products, encouraging visitors to stay longer, experience more and increase their spending in the destination.

The strategy reflects a broader shift from pursuing visitor numbers alone towards improving the quality and economic value of tourism growth.

With stronger air connectivity, targeted digital promotion and closer cooperation among authorities, airlines and travel businesses, the Russia and the CIS market is emerging as an increasingly important source of long-stay visitors for Da Nang.

Close coordination between the local authorities and travel companies is helping build a promising tourism ecosystem. Da Nang’s tourism sector is well positioned to further develop the promising Russian and CIS markets in the years ahead.

In the first eight months, Da Nang’s accommodation establishments served about 14.25 million visitors, up 24.9% year-on-year, while accommodation and catering revenue reached approximately VND46.93 trillion (US$1.83 billion), up 25.1%.

The city aims to welcome more than 19.1 million visitors in 2026, including around 8.7 million foreigners, while improving the quality of tourism growth and enhancing the sector’s contribution to the city’s economy.
