UN Women pledges to support Da Nang in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment

The remarks were made by Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Ho Quang Buu during his reception on September 30 for a delegation from the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). The visiting delegation was led by Ms. Rebecca Wood, Deputy Ambassador of New Zealand to Vietnam.
Vice Chairman Ho Quang Buu said Da Nang has consistently prioritized promoting gender equality and enhancing the position and role of women in socio-economic life.
The city has also placed a great emphasis on promoting sustainable development, ensuring social welfare and strengthening its capacity to adapt to climate change, he added.
Mr. Buu expressed his delight at the significance of the UN Women-funded project “Promoting Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment to Build a Safe, Compassionate and Climate-Resilient Da Nang”, implemented from January 2026 to February 2029, in addressing practical challenges facing the city.
The city leader voiced his hope that UN Women and international partners would continue to effectively implement projects and models that promote gender equality and gender-responsive climate change adaptation.
He also asked for continued support from UN Women and international partners in sharing experience, mobilizing resources and connecting cooperation programs that align with the city’s needs and development priorities in the coming time.
The UN Women delegation spoke highly of Da Nang’s implementation of projects promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, as well as the city’s green transition agenda toward achieving net-zero emissions.
UN Women emphasized that Da Nang’s green transition and net-zero ambitions can be achieved more quickly and equitably when women participate equally in production, business, leadership and policymaking.
The organization proposed Da Nang integrate gender equality into plans on climate change, green growth and disaster prevention and response.
UN Women reaffirmed its readiness to partner with Da Nang in its green transition journey toward Net Zero and sustainable development.
