Da Nang boosts cooperation with UNDP for sustainable development

On September 25 (local time), in New York (the USA), the Vietnam International Financial Center in Da Nang (VIFC-DN) officially became a member of the Financial Centres for Sustainability (FC4S) network, coordinated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The announcement was made during a working session between a delegation from Da Nang, led by municipal People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Manh Hung, and UNDP.

The event was attended by Mr. Marcos Athias Neto, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support, and Mr. Do Hung Viet, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations.

Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Manh Hung expressed his sincere appreciation for UNDP's support given for Da Nang in recent years, particularly in innovation, circular economy, green transformation, climate change adaptation and sustainable urban development.

He remarked, in its new phase of development, Da Nang wanted to further deepen its cooperation with UNDP, especially in mobilizing international resources, accessing advanced models and standards, and implementing initiatives capable of generating practical impacts on the city's socio-economic development.

The municipal leader noted Da Nang’s significant demand for investment resources for strategic infrastructure, urban transportation, energy, digital transformation, innovation, green urban development and climate change adaptation.

For his part, UN Assistant Secretary-General Marcos Athias Neto emphasized that Vietnam is one of UNDP's key partners.

In the coming period, the two sides will actively implement the 2027 - 2031 Country Programme, with a focus on four priorities: climate change response and environmental protection; economic and digital transformation; inclusive human development; and governance and the rule of law.

Mr. Marcos Athias Neto also spoke highly of Da Nang’s development orientation toward green growth, sustainability and innovation.

He also affirmed UNDP’s readiness to continue supporting the city in advancing sustainable development initiatives.

VIFC-DN expands connections with sustainable finance network

Joining FC4S at an early stage is expected to enable VIFC-DN to access international experience, standards and best practices in green and sustainable finance, as well as to expand connections with international financial centers, financial institutions and investors.

VIFC-DN is envisioned as a new-generation financial center focusing on financial technology, green finance and trade finance, as well as piloting new financial models, trading platforms and specialized exchanges.

The center sets a target of attracting international capital to key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, technology, the green economy, trade and tourism.

Established in 2017 under UNDP coordination, the FC4S network brings together 44 financial centers involved in mobilizing financial resources for national sustainable development goals, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change.

The network provides a platform for members to connect with other financial centers, regulatory bodies, financial institutions, and international investors; engage in policy dialogue; share experiences; and access research and support programs aimed at developing a sustainable financial ecosystem.
