Bringing heritage closer to visitors via digital platforms
DNO - Da Nang, home to a diverse system of heritage sites, landscapes and cultural spaces, alongside two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, has gradually innovated promotional methods on digital platforms. This contributes to spreading the city's cultural values to domestic and international visitors.

Experiential space expansion
Bringing heritage sites into the digital space has so far become popular. Social media platforms allow visitors to easily access information about the history, architecture and culture of their desired destination.
While traditional promotion mainly relies on printed materials, panels and live narration, digital platforms offer more dynamic storytelling methods through 3D imagery, short videos, and podcasts.
Moreover, the digital content is tailored to different customer segments, such as age, interests, and markets. Communication methods can be adjusted via the customer’s feedback.
For example, the My Son Sanctuary applied various technologies to promote this heritage site while enhancing its appeal, including a multilingual audio guide (available in English, French, Korean and Vietnamese) and a VR360 virtual reality website in 2023.
Alongside, the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board, starting in June 2026, collaborated with a business partner to promote this site on social media platforms.
After three months, these promotions attracted over 3 million views on Facebook, nearly 609,000 on Instagram and approximately 3.1 million on TikTok.
It is expected that the rate of engagement and followers on social media platforms offers a great promise for increasing visitor arrivals to the heritage site in the coming time.
Deputy Director of the Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Conservation Center Truong Thi Ngoc Cam believes that online promotion is an essential strategy for reaching international markets.
Digital platforms provide information while expanding the space for visitor experience. Travellers, through virtual reality, 3D technology, and artificial intelligence (AI), have opportunities to visually explore tourism destinations while interacting in multiple languages before arriving.
Improvement of customer accessibility
The Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, in late August 2026, collaborated with the online platform Klook to host "Kreatorverse 2026". The event brought together over 120 content creators from 20 countries and territories around the world.
They explored the city's diverse tourism ecosystem, ranging from heritage sites and landscapes to local cuisine. Then, they shared Da Nang images with millions of users worldwide.

In fact, this network of international KOLs contributes to boosting the destination's visibility while providing valuable data on traveller behavior and preferences. It serves as a foundation for developing suitable tourism products, meeting the visitor's needs.
However, Deputy General Director of Vitraco Tourism & Transportation Connection Company Le Tan Thanh Tung suggested that each destination should flexibly apply the combination of these two methods: traditional and digital promotions, depending on the customers' demand.
Vice Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association Phan Xuan Thanh emphasizes the importance of the human element and content. Technology is merely a tool, while a culturally savvy and skilled team is needed to tell attractive stories about heritage and to bring these stories into digital platform.
Alongside, local communities, artisans and the younger generation need to be deeply involved in the promotion. This helps convey the messages to the public closely and realistically.
Leveraging technological advancements and combining them with abundant resources will open "new doors" to bring culture closer to the public. So, heritage is transformed into a resource, steadily positioning Central Vietnam's tourism brand on the international map.
