Da Nang launches project to restore Cu De River watershed forests
DNO - The launch of a project to restore headwater forests in the Cu De River basin demonstrates the great determination of Da Nang and its partners to promote public-private partnership (PPP) to strengthen water security.

Most recently, at the Ta Lang - Gian Bi Community-based Cultural and Tourism Center in Hai Van Ward, the Da Nang People’s Committee, in coordination with the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, WWF-Viet Nam and HEINEKEN Vietnam, has held a launch ceremony for the project “Conservation and Restoration of Headwater Forest Ecosystems to Strengthen Water Security in the Cu De River Basin”.
The project was approved by the Da Nang People’s Committee under Decision No. 3186/QD-UBND dated July 20, 2026, and is implemented from July 2026 to December 2030.
In addition to planting more trees or expanding forest coverage, the project aims to restore ecological functions, enhance water retention, and maintain water resources through nature-based solutions.
According to Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Tran Nam Hung, Da Nang currently has more than 745,027 hectares of forests, including more than 503,387 hectares of natural forests, with a forest coverage rate of 58.25%.
At this scale, forests are not only a valuable natural resource but also essential “green infrastructure” that plays a vital role in regulating water resources, conserving biodiversity, reducing disaster risks and enhancing resilience to climate change.
Mr. Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Director General of the Department of International Cooperation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, who signed the tripartite cooperation program in 2022, affirmed that bringing together the government, businesses and conservation organizations would generate positive values for river basins and communities dependent on water resources.
He emphasized that the initiative is not merely a cooperation program among three partners, but also a strategically significant initiative to mobilize resources, expertise and the participation of the business community in protecting the country’s water resources.
