Da Nang seeks deeper high-tech cooperation with the RoK

Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Nguyen Manh Hung chaired the Da Nang- Korea Future Cooperation seminar in Seoul, the Republic of Korea (RoK), on Saturday.
In attendance at the event were Vietnamese Ambassador to the RoK Vu Ho, Consul General of the RoK in Da Nang Han Jung Il, former Korean National Assembly member Hong Moon Jong, and representatives from agencies, associations, businesses, investors and experts from both countries.
Fostering cooperation with the RoK
Speaking at the forum, Chairman Nguyen Manh Hung said Da Nang has identified science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and high-quality human resource development as strategic pillars for creating new growth drivers.
Also, the city has been shifting from leveraging existing advantages to enhancing endogenous capacity and building an ecosystem for research, development, and technology application, as well as attracting projects characterized by high technological content and high added value.
He wished that Korean enterprises will view the city not merely as an investment destination but as a partner for mutual development.
He affirmed the city’s commitment in continuously improving its investment environment, facilitating business connections and accompanying Korean enterprises as they explore, implement and expand their operations in the locality.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the RoK Vu Ho suggested the Da Nang - South Korea cooperation expand beyond cultural exchanges, tourism and services into technology investment, workforce training, research and design, particularly in high-tech industries, electronics, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and software.
Korean Consul General in Da Nang Han Jung Il expressed his expectation that the bilateral ties would continue to expand based on the existing strong foundation.
He affirmed that the Consulate General of the RoK in Da Nang will be act as a bridge connecting businesses from both sides, thereby deepening cooperation and delivering tangible results.
Promoting cooperation in semiconductors and AI
During the event, representatives from the Korea Advanced Institute for Technology Evaluation and Winwoo Partners presented their business and investment plans, as well as strategies for expanding operations in Da Nang.
They also discussed their requirements, conditions, and potential for connecting with partners within the city's technology and investment ecosystem.
These discussions helped clarify potential areas of cooperation and provided a basis for the parties to further study, establish connections and pursue specific investment and business opportunities in Da Nang.

At the Cooperation and Networking session, Director of the Da Nang Department of Finance Tran Thi Thanh Tam briefed Korean delegates on the city's development potential and future development orientations.
As of August 2026, Da Nang was home to 314 Korean-invested projects, with a total investment capital of nearly US$1.66 billion.
The RoK is also Da Nang’s largest source market for international tourists.
In the first eight months of 2026, the city welcomed over 1.4 million Korean visitors, supported by a flight frequency of approximately 140 flights per week between Da Nang and the RoK.
She also introduced five strategic cooperation spaces. Among them, the Da Nang Free Trade Zone currently comprises seven locations covering approximately 1,881 hectares, with functional groups for production and logistics, trade and services, and digital technology and innovation.
The city is also studying a plan to expand the zone to approximately 4,476 hectares.
In term of science and technology, Director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology Nguyen Thanh Hong stated that Da Nang has been prioritizing the development of high-value-added sectors such as microchips and semiconductors, AI, big data, IoT, and robotics.

The city currently has three recognized concentrated digital technology zones and eight operational data centers.
It is also promoting the development of regional-scale data centers, as well as infrastructure for semiconductor design and AI training.
Based on its potential and development orientations, Da Nang has proposed the development of clusters of Korean businesses specializing in hi-tech, advanced manufacturing and supporting industries within the Free Trade Zone and Chu Lai area; the establishment of a “Korea - Da Nang Innovation Bridge” connecting research institutes, universities, R&D centers, technology corporations and startups; and the implementation of long-term projects in high-quality tourism, MICE tourism, healthcare, wellness, and cuisine.

At the seminar, memoranda of understanding were signed among relevant parties with focus on semiconductors, artificial intelligence and high-tech human resource development.
In particular, the Da Nang Semiconductor and Artificial Intelligence Center for Research and Training (DSAC) inked agreements with the Center for Science and Technology Strategy and Policy Advisory and the Korea AI & Blockchain Association.
Agreements were also signed among DSAC, the Center for Science and Technology Strategy and Policy Advisory, the Semiconductor Institute under the Korea University of Technology, the Stella Avenue Investment Co., Ltd. and Technobridge Co., Ltd.
On the occasion, the Da Nang delegation visited and held working sessions with SK Group and Samsung Electronics in the RoK to discuss cooperation and investment orientations in high-tech industries, digital transformation, AI and semiconductors.
