Attendees at the meeting were also representatives from the Project Coordination Board of IRBM (Reducing pollution and preserving environmental flows in East Asian seas through the implementation of integrated river basin management in ASEAN countries) and the Environment Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Vietnam.
During a technical working session, Nguyen Van Lam, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Environment; Lee Jae Kwon, KEITI Chief Representative in Vietnam; and Hong Jun Suk, Head of the KEITI delegation to Da Nang, discussed a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation. It aims to leverage the technical assistance and official development assistance (ODA) funding from the Government of the Republic of Korea (RoK).
This initiative results from a collaboration between KEITI, the IRBM Project Management Board, and the Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Environment in research, surveys, and assessments regarding the improvement of integrated management for the Vu Gia-Thu Bon river basin.
With support from the IRBM project, the parties identified technical requirements and cooperation directions between RoK’s Ministry of Environment (represented by KEITI) and Da Nang City (represented by the city’s Department of Agriculture and Environment) regarding municipal solid waste management. This aims to enhance the environmental quality of the Vu Gia-Thu Bon river basin.
The delegation also conducted a field survey at the Tam Xuan 2 waste storage and treatment facility (Tam Xuan Commune, Da Nang City) to valuate the risks impacting nearby surface water sources and discussed technical bottlenecks and solutions with local authorities and the facility operating unit.
