Attapeu covers an area of 10,320 square kilometres and has a population of around 165,000. The Lao province has significant potential in agriculture, clean energy, hydropower, mineral resources, as well as ecological and historical tourism.

A number of Vietnamese investors, including investors from Da Nang, have implemented projects in the Lao province, notably a large-scale agricultural model covering more than 30,000 hectares.

Attapeu’s economy grew by 4.3 per cent in the first six months of 2026. The Attapeu provincial leader expressed appreciation for Da Nang’s continued support in various areas, particularly infrastructure development, culture, human resource training, vocational education and scholarships.

Briefing Attapeu leaders on Da Nang’s development, Mr. Nguyen Duc Dung said that following the administrative merger, the city has reorganized its apparatus and operated a two-tier local government system in a streamlined, effective and efficient manner.

The Da Nang People’s Council currently has 76 deputies, with its working methods being continuously renewed to meet the requirements of development in the city’s expanded administrative and development space.

Da Nang is focusing on leveraging its strengths in aviation, seaports, the establishment of the Free Trade Zone and the International Financial Centre, while accelerating digital transformation and developing a green and circular economy.

These efforts are aimed at promoting sustainable development and strengthening Da Nang’s role as a growth engine for Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands, as well as the country as a whole.

Building on the results achieved since the beginning of the year, the city will continue to mobilize resources and create new growth drivers to achieve its target of GRDP growth of at least 11 per cent.

In reality, Da Nang and Attapeu share a number of similarities as well as development potential and advantages that warrant further study and cooperation.

It is proposed that the People’s Councils of the two localities strengthen delegation exchanges and share experience in organisation and operations, thereby contributing to the development of each locality.

It is hoped that Attapeu will continue to make progress and that the friendship and cooperation between the two localities will become increasingly strong, contributing to deepening the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion between Vietnam and Laos.

On this occasion, Da Nang provided VND 500 million in support to Attapeu to assist with social welfare activities and efforts to address damage caused by floods and heavy rains in late August 2026.
