Da Nang, Laos’ Sekong seek to deepen friendship and cooperation

DNO - As part of the ongoing working visit to the southern and central provinces of Laos, the Da Nang delegation visited and held talks with leaders of Sekong Province on Wednesday.

Secretary of the Sekong Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People's Council Bounlai Boutthi expressed his delight at the friendship, cooperation and special solidarity between Sekong and Da Nang over the past years.

In recent years, Sekong Province has leveraged its advantages and implemented various measures to promote local socio-economic development.

The Lao province has also received active cooperation and support from Vietnamese localities, particularly Da Nang.

The memoranda of understanding on cooperation between Sekong and Da Nang have been comprehensively implemented with positive results.

In particular, Da Nang has supported Sekong in developing infrastructure and training human resources.

Mr. Bounlai Boutthi asked for a helping hand from Da Nang to develop human resource and educational infrastructure, as well as build a peaceful, friendly and stable border and promote sustainable development.

He also called for stronger cooperation and increased exports of agricultural and forestry products between the two localities.

He expressed his confidence that Da Nang would continue to achieve new development milestones, and increase exchanges of delegations, thereby further deepening their special friendship and cooperation in a practical manner across various fields.

On behalf of Da Nang’s leaders, Chairman Nguyen Duc Dung thanked the Sekong provincial leaders for their warm and thoughtful reception.

He expressed his delight at the flourishing friendship and cooperation between the two sister localities, which share a border stretching over 157km.

He believed that, following the success of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Sekong, with its important strategic position, would continue to achieve new development and constantly improve the living standards of its people.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Dung, the two localities share many similarities as well as potential and advantages.

Agreeing with Sekong's proposals, he expressed his confidence that the two localities would continue to deepen their special friendship and cooperation in a practical and effective manner.

Sharing Sekong's difficulties and losses caused by floods and heavy rains in late August 2026, Da Nang provided VND500 million in support to help the province overcome the damage and carry out social welfare activities.

The city also provided VND200 million to help Sekong organize activities marking major national holidays of Laos and Vietnam.
