Association of Vietnamese People in Laos’ Sekong Province strengthens role as a community bridge

DNO - Continuing their working visit to the southern-central provinces of Laos, a delegation from Da Nang visited the Association of Vietnamese People and the Laos - Vietnam Friendship School in Sekong Province on Wednesday.

According to Mr. Tran Dinh Hai, Chairman of the Association of Vietnamese People in Sekong Province, the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in the province comprises 90 households with 450 people across four districts, with most concentrated in Lam Mam District.

The association has operated for more than 21 years and serves as a focal point connecting the Vietnamese community with local authorities.

Currently, the Laos-Vietnam Friendship School in Sekong Province has 33 teachers, 19 classes and 798 students, including 53 Vietnamese students.

The Association of Vietnamese People in Sekong Province asked Da Nang to provide support for the construction of a community center for Vietnamese expatriates and continue supporting teachers of Vietnamese at the friendship school.

Chairman Nguyen Duc Dung expressed his pleasure at visiting the association and the school in the Lao locality.

He also praised the association for its role over the past 21 years in serving as a bridge between the Vietnamese community and local authorities.

Its efforts contributed to strengthening ties among community members, promoting mutual support in daily life and economic development, and encouraging compliance with the policies and laws of the host country.

Chairman Dung also recognized the efforts of the school’s management and teachers in overcoming difficult conditions and maintaining teaching and learning activities across all three educational levels, particularly Vietnamese-language instruction.

On the occasion, the Da Nang delegation provided VND100 million in financial support to the Association of Vietnamese People in Sekong Province for its activities.
