Launch of "One Billion Green Trees" program on Cham Islands

DNO - The Management Board of Cham Islands-Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve (Da Nang City), in collaboration with Dat Phuong Group, on Wednesday, held a tree-planting launch ceremony. It is part of the "One Billion Green: Each Green Tree, Each Commitment" campaign on Cham Islands.

The launch ceremony is a concrete manifestation of the Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between the Management Board of Cham Islands-Hoi An Biosphere Reserve and Dat Phuong Group, within the framework of the “One Billion Green Trees: Each Tree, Each Commitment.”

This event also marks the inaugural practical activity in the 2026-2030 cooperation program between the two entities, aiming to plant at least 25,000 trees.

At the launch ceremony, 500 tamanu trees (scientific name: Calophyllum inophyllum) and square-fruited Barringtonia (scientific name: Barringtonia asiatica) were planted at Chong and Xep beaches, starting to plant 5,000 trees by 2026.

Beyond the number of trees planted, the program prioritizes their long-term growth. So, the trees will be continuously taken care of and monitored. The replacement trees will be carried out as needed. These efforts aim to enhance the landscape, restore habitats, and improve the quality of the ecosystem on Cham Islands.

In the upcoming years, tree-growing and tree-care initiatives will be carried out based on these initial 500 trees. Additionally, local businesses, communities, schools, tourists, and other stakeholders will be asked to participate in the campaign. It seeks to increase public accountability for nature preservation and environmental protection.

During the 2026-2030 period, the program will focus on ecosystem restoration, biodiversity conservation, planting and caring for trees, environmental education and communication, and the mobilization of social resources for conservation efforts on Cham Islands.
