Unique areca sheath fashion show in Da Nang
DNO - As part of the Loc Yen Ancient Village Festival 2026, the “Areca Sheath Creativity and Loc Yen - Thanh Binh Tourism Development Connection Day” showcased a collection of unique outfits made from areca sheaths.
The fashion show was staged amid moss-covered stone pathways and golden rice fields.
Women from Thanh Binh Commune and students from the city-based Duy Tan University modeled designs made from areca sheaths.
The unique setting offered visitors an unforgettable experience as well as highlighted the beauty of nature, local culture and the message of green development.
The program featured artistic outfits made from areca sheaths, demonstrating the material’s potential for use in contemporary fashion and art.
The outfits were designed based on traditional styles, such as the "ao ba ba" (the traditional southern Vietnamese blouse), "ao dai" (traditional long dress), and traditional Co ethnic costumes, all complemented by accessories made from areca sheaths.
Students from the Duy Tan University brought a contemporary twist to the event as presenting a youthful and dynamic collection made from areca sheath products sourced locally in Thanh Binh.
Crowds of locals and tourists expressed their delight at the areca sheath fashion show and watched Thanh Binh residents weaving products from the material right on the grounds of the ancient village of Loc Yen.
The young designers’ willingness to experiment and create new outfits incorporating areca sheaths demonstrates the material’s potential to be transformed into distinctive and creative designs.
