Expanding the city's cooperation
The people-to-people diplomacy not only fosters mutual understanding and trust between Da Nang's residents and international friends but also provides strong support for political and economic diplomacy as well as the promotion of investment, trade, and tourism. It contributes to clearly featuring Da Nang as a dynamic, friendly, and open city.
Guided by the motto "Connecting Da Nang with the world," the city has organized numerous large-scale international cultural events in the city, such as the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, the Vietnam - Japan Festival, the Hoi An - Japan Cultural Exchange, and the Vietnam - Repblic of Korea (Korea) Festival.
These programs also convey messages of peace, friendship, and common development.
Until now, Da Nang has established and maintained relationships with over 95 international people's organizations. It focuses on deepening ties with partners from neighboring countries, ASEAN, the Russian Federation, Japan, Korea, and France, while expanding connections with goodwill associations, organizations, and individuals.
The city has attracted hundreds of billions of VND from foreign non-governmental aid for projects concerning poverty reduction, support for people with disabilities, education, healthcare, and climate change response in the locality. .
Community connections and integration promotion
Da Nang’s external relations have continued to reach positive results since the beginning of this year. The network of international partners has steadily expanded, affirming the city's commitment to proactive, flexible, and comprehensive integration.
In the first eight months of 2026, Da Nang signed 16 new or expanded international agreements between the City People's Committee and 14 foreign localities, one organization, and one business.
The city's partners include Savannakhet, Champasak, Salavan, Sekong, and Attapeu (Laos); Yongin, Osan, Daegu, Gwangyang, Hamyang County, and Dentium Joint Stock Company (Korea); Kinokawa and Nagasaki (Japan); China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; Chemnitz in Germany; and the Agency for Economic Development and Cooperation (AED, Austria).
In addition, the city has maintained friendly and cooperative relations with 59 localities, international organizations, and enterprises across 24 countries/territories, with 66 agreements currently in effect across various sectors.
Concurrently, Da Nang's cultural diplomacy has been implemented comprehensively, promoting the city's image and residents while enhancing its status.
The city effectively maintains forums, conferences, and programs for hosting international guests while promoting its culture, tourism, and investment environment via the city leaders' working visits abroad.
As a result, culture has become a vital bridge, enhancing Da Nang's appeal to international partners.
People-to-people diplomacy in the locality continues to be implemented effectively, closely aligned with political and economic diplomacy.
In particular, the city focused on international youth and student exchange programs with traditional and strategic partners, such as Japan, Korea, and ASEAN nations. This creates an environment for the younger generation to enhance their integration capabilities and to spread the image of friendly, dynamic Da Nang residents to the public.
Traditional exchange events in Da Nang include the 76th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China (January 18, 1950 - 2026); the "Vietnam-Russian Federation Traditional Get-Togethers"; the presentation contest titled "Exploring India's Land and People"; the International Yoga Festival; and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand, the "Steps for Peace" during the Quan The Am Festival, which attracted over 600 international delegates.
Da Nang commits to enhancing the substantive nature of people-to-people diplomacy. This involves proactively aligning with the city's major development strategies, such as mobilizing international resources for the city's international financial center, free trade zone, and economic development.
Simultaneously, the city is intensifying external communication and strengthening connections with the overseas Vietnamese community to encourage their support for the homeland and the defense of maritime sovereignty of the country.
Da Nang also actively promote city’s image globally through initiatives such as the "Greetings from Da Nang" media project and the "Da Nang Through International Eyes" photo contest.
