Installation art exhibition highlights Hoi An’s traditional crafts
DNO - The “Touching Tradition” installation art exhibition is being held at the Song Hoai Square in Hoi An Ward, Da Nang, until September 2.

The exhibition is part of the Hoi An Creative Week 2026 which is taking place in Hoi An under the theme “A Journey to Touch Heritage, Touch Creativity.”
The installation art space introduces Hoi An’s traditional crafts and craft villages, as well as offers the public opportunities to take part in hands-on creative activities.
It is open from 9:00 am to 9:30 pm daily, while experiential activities run from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
At the exhibition, Hoi An’s traditional crafts and products, including Tra Que vegetables, Thanh Ha pottery, Cu Lao Cham nipa-palm hammock weaving, Kim Bong carpentry, bamboo handicrafts, the Thien Cau headpiece, mat weaving, tailoring, leatherwork and lantern making, are presented through their distinctive core values.
Visitors to the event have the opportunity to explore traditional crafts as a form of living knowledge shaped by generations of observation, practice and accumulated experience.
Drawing on this knowledge, artisans create products rooted in everyday life and look toward the future with a constant drive for innovation and development.
Visitors can experience firsthand parts of the traditional production process.
For instance, they can try the traditional foot-operated pottery wheel used in Thanh Ha Pottery Village, explore the perspective of performers working with the Thien Cau headpiece, admire artistic woven-mat creations, and enjoy a range of other hands-on experiences.
The “Touching Tradition” exhibition also highlights the power of encounters and dialogue. When artisans engage with designers, artists, experts and people with different perspectives, traditional knowledge gains new opportunities to be revisited and reinterpreted.
Hoi An is now home to more than 50 traditional crafts and numerous forms of folk art practiced within its distinctive “village within the city, city within the village” structure, where craft skills and creativity have been passed down through generations.
The rich heritage also forms the foundation for Hoi An’s decision to focus on crafts and folk arts when joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
