The initiative is encouraging hotels and other lodging establishments to adopt environmentally responsible practices, use resources more efficiently and deliver greener, higher-quality experiences for visitors.
The voluntary framework is designed to support Da Nang’s ambition to develop sustainable tourism in tandem with strengthening the city’s appeal as a responsible and environmentally friendly destination.
It does not create additional administrative procedures or legal obligations and does not replace existing regulations.
The criteria are divided into three recommended levels, covering key areas including environmental protection, resource efficiency, human resources, green operations and community engagement.
The environmental group comprises 59 criteria, including 30 basic practices.
Accommodation providers are encouraged to save electricity and water, reduce pollution, protect biodiversity and preserve cultural heritage.
Measures include reducing single-use plastic bottles, encouraging guests to use refillable water bottles, adopting paperless check-in and check-out and sorting waste at source.
The framework also promotes stronger connections between accommodation businesses and local communities.
Hotels are encouraged to provide guests with information about local culture, traditional craft villages, locally made products and community-based services, helping visitors discover a more authentic side of Da Nang.
Human resources and training account for 32 criteria, including 15 basic practices.
The framework encourages local recruitment, equal employment opportunities, better working conditions and staff training in energy efficiency and waste management.
Accommodation businesses are encouraged to have at least 80% Vietnamese employees and 60% employees from Da Nang. Green practices also extend to procurement, housekeeping, laundry, landscaping, kitchens and restaurants.
Businesses are encouraged to reduce packaging, prioritize environmentally friendly products and locally sourced food, conserve water and electricity, expand renewable energy use, reuse towels and bed linen, and reduce food waste.
Importantly, Da Nang Green Stay connects environmental responsibility with visitor experiences.
Accommodation providers are encouraged to promote walking, cycling and outdoor activities, introduce guests to natural and cultural attractions, and ensure responsible interaction with wildlife.
For meetings and events, “green meeting” packages are also encouraged, with measures to reduce single-use plastics and unnecessary resource consumption.
With Da Nang Green Stay, the city is seeking to turn sustainability into a practical part of the visitor experience, thereby helping travellers discover a greener, more responsible and more distinctive Da Nang.
