Da Nang leaders pay tribute to Lao National Assembly Chairman at Lao Consulate
DNO - On the morning of August 10, a delegation of Da Nang city leaders from the municipal Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, led by Le Ngoc Quang, Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee, paid tribute to Xaysomphone Phomvihane, Politburo Member and Chairman of the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, who passed away on August 8, at the Lao Consulate General in Da Nang.

The delegation included Chairman of the municipal People's Council Nguyen Duc Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Da Nang Nguyen Dinh Vinh, and Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People's Committee Nguyen Thi Anh Thi.
The delegation observed a minute of silence in memory of Xaysomphone Phomvihane. Writing in the condolence book, Party Secretary Le Ngoc Quang expressed his profound sorrow over the passing of Xaysomphone Phomvihane. He also extended his deepest condolences to the Lao Party, State and people, as well as to the bereaved family.
Secretary Le Ngoc Quang described Xaysomphone Phomvihane as a senior Lao leader and a close friend of Vietnam, including Da Nang. Xaysomphone Phomvihane made significant contributions to strengthening and promoting the Vietnam - Laos relations of special friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic cohesion while greatly contributing to Laos' development and efforts to improve the living standards of the Lao people of all ethnic groups. His passing is a tremendous loss to the Party, State, and people of both Laos and Vietnam.
Xaysomphone Phomvihane, born on December 12, 1956, was a Politburo Member of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and Chairman of the National Assembly of Laos. He passed away on August 8, 2026, at the age of 70.

As a key leader of the Lao revolution, he made significant contributions to Laos’ national development and to strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion between Vietnam and Laos. His passing is a great loss to Laos and bilateral relations.
